December 2023

Summer Smith

Your community technology center values our students and their contributions to our school, their classmates and the world! Congratulations to Summer, for being the outstanding student of the month for December. We are fortunate to have you as a student!

Medical Office Administration

"Summer has excellent attendance at 99.6% which reflects both in-class and Distance Education attendance—the
highest of all students in the Medical Office Program. Summer is so focused and concerned about completing her DE assignments that she requests assignments be posted 2-3 days or a week in advance so she can work ahead to
ensure she is ready and prepared for any in-class learning in advance. This has been a great suggestion that has
benefited others as well.
Summer has a natural leadership ability that comes through service learning and a mission to serve others. She
especially enjoys serving others and being of assistance to team mates and her co-workers in Medical Office
Administration.
Professional traits that really make Summer shine are those of Productivity, Initiative, Excellence, Problem Solving and Building Relationships. These have been evident in several things she has done this year.
One such event in which these traits were most evident was during our Annual TechFest event. With about 20 current students and 20-30 visiting sophomores split between 2 rooms to manage, Summer rose to challenge of instinctively doing anything she saw that needed to be taken care of and addressing those needs with professionalism and excellence without any prompting or asking. It quickly became evident that Summer was able to anticipate and address needs and issues quickly and resolve them even before Mrs. Adams knew there was an issue. Summer seemed to have everything under control and was a true "Super Hero in Charge". She was confident in her skills and abilities and took care of items and was able to anticipate needs that Mrs. Adams had forgotten about during the hustle and bustle of the event and either made sure to address those needs or remind Mrs. Adams that it needed to be done.
This demonstration of work ethics and a natural desire to help others was a positive light during the event that other
students couldn't ignore. After the event, students were asked to comment on what they noticed about their classmates and each other. Many praised Summer on how well she was able to lead during the days' activities; it was great to hear other students notice her commitment, actions and passion for helping others.
Summer works on building relationships with her classmates and enjoys helping. She is friendly, interacts well during group assignments and makes everyone feel valued as part of the class. She always willing to assist others when they need help understanding a topic or an assignment. Her classmates have especially enjoyed when she gives of both her heart and her hands by making treat bags and homemade goodies to share with her classmates on holidays and special occasions—just because it brings her joy.
Outside of school, Summer has served on mission trips and it is her heart's desire to help others in a positive an
uplifting way. I doubt she has viewed this school year as being a mission field, but I have to say she has left a positive impact and lasting impression upon her classmates, instructor, campus visitors and SouthernTech.."
