This major is subject to space availability and pre-requisite approval.

This major prepares students to become licensed as qualified teachers of cosmetology theory and practice in industry as well as in public or private institutions. Students receive training in teaching methods, course outlining and development, and appropriate evaluation techniques. Included are law, beauty school management, and record keeping. To obtain state licensing, students must complete 1000 hours of instruction and pass the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology written and practical exams.

Entrance Requirements

The student must:

  • hold an Oklahoma Cosmetologist license or be registered for the Basic Cosmetology examination. If any person enrolled prior to examination shall fail to appear or fail to pass Basic Cosmetologist, he/she shall immediately cease master instructor training until such time as he shall again register for and show proof of achieving a passing score.


Applicants must complete a Southern Tech Application for Admission. Additional information and applications are available at the Southern Tech campus and online at Enrollment for this career major is open to partnering High Schools (juniors/seniors) and Adults.


High School Student: Free. Adult Student (in-district): $2.50 per hour; Adult Student (Out-of-District): $5 per hour; and Adult Student (Out-of-State): $7.50 per hour. Additional costs may include books, supplies, and miscellaneous fees.
