Description

The Cosmetology program prepares students to become licensed cosmetologists who provide nail, skin, scalp, and hair care to customers to help them enhance their personal appearance. Students receive classroom instruction and hands-on training in hair styling, cutting, and coloring. Included are manicures, pedicures, facials, lash and brow tinting and arching, and scalp treatments along with customer service and shop management. To obtain state licensing, students must complete 1500 hours of instruction and pass the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering written and practical exam.

Entrance Requirements

Postsecondary must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • submit completed student registration application accompanied by a fee of $5.00 (must be a Money Order) before attending class
  • submit proof of at least eighth grade education or equivalency or submit proof of satisfactorily passed an ability to benefit exam
  • submit 2”x3” current full-face photograph of the applicant as requested on registration form. A current photograph is one taken within the last six months

Secondary must:

  • be at least 16 years of age by November 1st of the current year
  • submit completed student registration application accompanied by a fee of $5.00 (must be a Money Order) before attending class
  • submit proof of at least eighth grade education or equivalency or submit proof of satisfactorily passed an ability to benefit exam
  • submit, if under 18 years of age, a photocopy of birth certificate or other legal proof of age
  • submit 2”x3” current full-face photograph of the applicant as requested on registration form. A current photograph is one taken within the last six months

Applicants must complete a SouthernTech Application for Admission. Additional information and applications are available at the Southern Tech campus and online at www.sotech.edu. Enrollment for this career program is open to adults and partnering high schools (juniors/seniors).

Additional costs may include books, supplies, and miscellaneous fees.

Evening: 5:00-9:30 PM Monday-Thursday plus 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM 3 Saturdays per month
